Mike and Diane went to Niagara Falls for a short vacation from November 2-5, 2001.  We had a really great time.

We traveled by AMTRAK.  If you haven't tried it, you should.  The total travel time including getting to and from the train stations wasn't much more than the flight would have been.  OK, so you think that is impossible.  Well, lets figure it out.  Today you need to get to the airport at least 2 hours before you take off.  We were 1 hour from the closest airport with a direct flight.  The flight is 1 hour long and we would have had to wait at least 1/2 hour for our luggage and transportation to the hotel.  Then there is another 3/4 hour drive to our hotel.  So, total time to fly from NYC to Buffalo-Niagara Falls would have taken us 5 hours 15 minutes.  The train ride including waiting for train and transportation on each side was 7 hours 45 minutes.  And, we got to walk around and eat what we wanted and the scenery was much better than looking at clouds the whole way.

We spent much of the time in Canada.  But we had a special day on Sunday the 4th when we traveled to Rich Stadium in Orchard Park, NY for the Buffalo Bills game.  They played the Indianapolis Colts.  Diane is an avid Bills fan and had never been to this stadium to see them play.  They lost but it really didn't matter.  The experience was awesome!

We had one of the very best gourmet meals in the restaurant at the top of the Minolta Tower on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.  The service was top notch and the view was incomparable.  During the winter months they run a light show on the falls at night and our table was right along the window.  We would look down to pinks and greens and blues and rainbows.  Very beautiful and very romantic.  The picture at the top and bottom are pictures from the tower during the day.
